Little John Challenge Walk

A long distance walk of 28 miles in te Sherwood Forest area of Nottinghamshire and which is themed on the story of Robin Hood and his Merry Men. It visits locations reputedly associated with the legend. Maps, statistics and gpx route file for the walk are included.

Summary: The Little John Challenge Walk takes a route through Sherwood Forest which, according to folklore, was the heart of Robin Hood country. Little John was one of Robin's trusty 'Merrie Men'. Sherwood Forest which includes woodland, gorges, meandering rivers and trickling streams is the backdrop for a walk which also visits and historic houses, revered sites, places of worship, parks and local villages. From the start of the walk in Edwinstowe these include the Major Oak (Queen Oak), Sherwood Forest Country Park National Nature Reserve, Budby South Forest, Church Warsop, Cuckley, Norton, The Kiln Wood, Holbeck Woodhouse, Holbeck, Cresswell Crags, Welbeck Abbey, Duchess Plantation, Clumber Park, Hardwick Village, Bothamsall, Robin Hood's Cave, Ollerton and Lidgett. Much of the route follows the Robin Hood's Way path.
