Summary: The Adlerweg, also know as the Eagle's Walk, is a long distance path which spans the whole of the Austrian Tyrol. Look at the map of the walk and you can see how it gets its popular name, as the route is spread like an Eagle's wings across the country. The walk soars over high ground, crossing mountains, traversing ridges, visiting ice-blue mountain lakes, crossing flowering alpine meadows, tracking all fast flowing cool mountain streams, some with spectacular waterfalls, and in all crossing six seperate mountain ranges, namely the Kaisergebirge, the Brandenburger Alpen, the Karwendel, the Tuxer Alpen, the Wettersteingebirge and the Lechtaler Alpen. The city of Innsbruck sits near the centre of the walk, making for a convenient base to spread ones wings when attempting this challenging walk. It is not to be underestimated, with 25,000 metres of tough alpine climbing facing those who take on the walk.
