Laugavegur Trail and Fimmvörðuháls Trail

The 55km Laugavegur Trail is Iceland's most famous, iconic long-distance hiking route. Coupled with the Fimmvörðuháls Trail, a 25km extension often added to the Laugavegur, the two trails compliment each other creating a challenging route of around 80 kilometres from Skógar to Laugavegurinn.

Summary: The Laugavegur Trail is Iceland's premier hike, which tackles a sequence of strange, eerily alien landscapes, over the course of several days. The name Laugavegur literally translates as 'Hot Spring Road' so you can at least guess what you're likely to see, especially at the northern end of the route - which can be walked in either direction. Camping huts are conveniently placed along the whole length of the route, around a dozen of them; so getting a bed for the night should not be a problem - so long as you have booked ahead of the walk.

The Fimmvörðuháls Trail, at the southern end of the walk climbs around 1,000m as it goes up above the majestic Skógafoss Waterfall. It passes by more beautiful waterfalls on a section referred to as Waterfall Way before threading through the high pass at Fimmvörðuháls. The views are amazing and full of stunning scenery all the way.
