Summary: The Ashdown Forest Perambulation is a clockwise figure-of eight walk centred on Gills Lap, but with a convenient start from the Forest Visitor Centre with a car park, displays and facilities. The full route could easily be walked as two 20-mile circuits using these and nearby car parks, or by linking from stations at Crowborough, Eridge, Ashurst and East Grinstead to make rather longer day-walks. From the nominal start at Ashdown Park Hotel the walk goes by Newbridge, Kidd's Hill, Pillow Mound (Kings Standing Clump), Poundgate, Crowborough Common, Rotherfield, Hornshurst Wood, Boarshead, Cookham's Wood, Buckhurst Park, Withyham, Hartfield, Newton's Hill, returning to Pillow Mound (Kings Standing Clump), Camp Hill, Fairwarp, Airman's Grave, Marlpits, Nutley Windmill, Chelwood Vachery, Braberry Hatch, Press Ridge Warren, Goat Farm, Lavender Platt, Forest Row and Broadstone Warren.
