Summary: The Camuplodunum was conceived in 1974 by Derek Keeble, a local orienteering enthusiast, as a 25 mile, long distance route around the town boundary of Colchester. From the beginning of the walk at Horkesley Heath and walked in a clockwise direction the Camuplodunum visits, or passes close to, Cuckoo Farm, Ardleigh Reservoir, Fox Street, Moze Hall, Crockleford Heath, Churn Wood, The Strip, Greenstead, The Hythe, River Colne, Hythe Marshes, Rowhedge, East Donyland Hall, Fingringhoe, Manwood Chase, Friday Wood, Roman River, Layer-de-la-Haye, Chest Wood, Butcher's Wood, Colchester Zoo, Stanway Green, Beacon End, Eight Ash Green, West Bergholt Hall and West Bertholt.
