Summary: The Mersey Valley Timberland Trail follows the sandstone edge of the Cheshire Plain for part of its course before descending to the Mersey valley below. Starting at Oughtrington and passing through Lymm, the route connects with the towpath of the Bridgewater Canal and passes Lymm Dam, Grappenhall Wood, Appleton Dingle, Daresbury Firs, Windmill Hill and Halton Village. It is walked in mostly rural surroundings although it does include some urban walking. The route also includes hills, woodland, parkland, farmland and sections of canal towpath.
