St Peter's Way

A long distance path of 41 miles in Essex, this pilgrims route heads west to east across the county, beginning in the market town of Chipping Ongar and ending at St Peter's Chapel, on Bradwell Beach, just south of the Blackwater Estuary. Summary: St Peter's Way long distance footpath is a route across the open agricultural land of Essex passing Hanningfield Reservoir and inlets of the Blackwater Estuary and reaching the coast to the east of Tillingham, then following the sea wall from where there are extensive views across the Essex marshes. From the start in Chipping Ongar St Peter's Way visits High Ongar, Blackmore, Mill Green, Margaretting, Stock, West Hanningfield, East Hanningfield, Bicknacre, Purleigh, Mundon, Maylandsea, Mayland, Steeple and Tillingham before reaching the east coast and following it northwards to finish at Chapel of St Peter on the Wall/ Othona Roman Fort.
